12 Month Fixed Term Contract, Full time: 35 hours per week
Salary: £37,000 to £40,000 + Car Allowance + Benefits
Home based in England, Scotland or Wales with regular national travel
About the role
EAL is looking for an experienced Engineering and Manufacturing professional to join us as an Independent End Point Assessor (IEPA) on a 12-month fixed term contract. In this role, you will assess apprentices undertaking Skills England apprenticeship standards, ensuring they meet the required Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs) and are fully competent to operate within their occupation.
You will conduct observations in the workplace, facilitate practical observations, professional discussions/technical interviews, and review project evidence to determine final grades in line with published assessment criteria. This is an opportunity to play a key role in upholding industry standards and supporting workforce competence across the engineering sector.
What you’ll be doing
You will deliver End Point Assessments in accordance with published apprenticeship standards, conducting workplace observations in live engineering environments and leading structured professional discussions and technical interviews. You will review portfolios and project documentation, applying grading criteria (Fail, Pass, Merit, Distinction) accurately and consistently to determine final outcomes.
You will produce clear, evidence-based assessment reports and meet internal quality and service level expectations. The role also includes participating in moderation and standardisation activities, representing EAL professionally on employer sites, and ensuring compliance with safeguarding, independence and data protection requirements. Success will be measured through the accuracy and consistency of grading decisions, timely completion of assessments and reporting, quality of written feedback, low upheld appeals, and positive feedback from Principal Assessor (moderation), IQA, employers and training providers.
What we’re looking for
You will be fully qualified in Engineering and/or Manufacturing relevant to the apprenticeship standards being assessed, holding a minimum Level 3 Engineering/Manufacturing qualification (Apprenticeship or equivalent). You will have recent, hands-on industry experience within a relevant engineering discipline, such as CNC machining, Maintenance and Operations, Fabrication and Welding, or Electrical or Mechanical engineering. A Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment (A1 or equivalent) is required.
You will demonstrate strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple assessments and meet service level timelines. You will be able to make sound, objective and evidence-based grading decisions aligned to published criteria, with excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams) and confidence in using online assessment platforms such as ACE360 is essential. You must maintain professional integrity, declare conflicts of interest, operate impartially, and demonstrate a clear commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, and regulatory compliance.
Other skills which would be desirable however not needed to apply for the role
While not essential, a higher technical qualification such as an HNC/HND (Level 4/5 pre-2015) or a Degree in an Engineering or Manufacturing discipline would be advantageous. Professional registration (EngTech, IEng or CEng) with a recognised professional engineering institution, and a Health and Safety qualification such as IOSH or NEBOSH, would also be beneficial.
An Internal Quality Assurance qualification (Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice), previous experience delivering End Point Assessment within regulated apprenticeship standards, and experience participating in moderation or standardisation activities would be desirable.
